Why is self-esteem important for kids?

It's just as important for kids as it is for adults. The only difference, is that we have the gift of neuroplasticity and child brain development on our side while caring for children.

International Parenting Summit Mini-Series

Every day children may face new challenges, from learning to function in the outside world to learning to walk, talk, make new friends, all the way to learning to navigate peer pressure and their body changing when they are teens.
During the day their feeling of happiness and self-esteem may fluctuate. At the end of one day, the child may feel good about themselves, as they had fun with their friends, have done well at school, and are happy at home. However, the next day, it may all fall apart if even just one thing goes wrong.
How can parents navigate children's self-esteem without getting the "You need to say I'm great, as you as my mom/dad/grandma"?
