What is discipline?

Good discipline helps a child to learn. Children learn that there are consequences for their actions, both positive and negative. Ideally, the consequence should follow the action and should be relevant to the behaviour.

International Parenting Summit Mini-Series

Almost daily, parents are faced with challenges connected to children's behaviour. These challenges might require you to teach your children about social skills, rules, behaviour and more.

Knowing what to do and how to do it is key in disciplining yourself and your children. Apart from that, we need the answer to how as well as how to communicate it.

How do we communicate with our kids was the first summit weekend of TEACHING COMMUNICATION TO YOUR CHILDREN (learn more here), but what do we do if children still don't listen.

What are the tools and techniques that you can use to disciple your children?

It's important to not spank, hit, or slap a child of any age. That is physical punishment, not discipline. Please don't do it. Many studies have shown that there are very negative consequences for the children as well as their brain make-up. Babies and toddlers are especially unlikely to be able to make any connection between their behaviour and physical punishment. They will only feel the pain of the hit and have emotional consequences. These actions are not discipline but punishment for your kids. Discipline is more of a means of actively engaging with kids to help mold their moral character — a way to teach them right from wrong. And this is a skill that is vital to functioning in society.
